The Importance of a Hobby

What are you passionate about? Chances are, you have a hobby or pastime that truly brings you joy and allows you to grow as a person. Many common hobbies are writing, art, sports, fishing, collections, for example.

Your hobbies and interests may have changed since you were younger, but hopefully you have some sort of hobby or personal interest that really sets your soul on fire! Think of your favorite pastime and how it makes you feel. Think of how this hobby makes you feel like you and makes you feel complete. It’s very important to have something in life that you can always turn to and be excited about no matter what you are going through.

My absolute favorite hobby is writing! I’ve actually thoroughly enjoyed writing since I was a little girl. I’ve grown to love it even more so as an adult. Writing makes me feel so free and it helps me express myself and I have hopes that my work will help others in some way. I want to pass on the life lessons that I’ve learned. Thank you to Arushi for this blog post recommendation and all of your support! What are some of your favorite hobbies?

A Thing Called Life

Life…a little word with such big meaning and importance. We are all human and on a journey very different, yet in many ways similar to each other. We wake up every day with a goal, responsibilities, working on personal growth, and we all walk this earth with challenges.

There are different walks of life everywhere you turn. There are people who have struggled a lot in life and those that have not known what it’s like, there are those that look at the glass half-full, while others see it half-empty, there are people who will continue to go down the same path and those who work hard every single day to strive to reach their goals.

For me, I have known many challenges in life, but I also am extremely fortunate and blessed. I try to look at my challenges and struggles as ways that are making me stronger and making me a better person. Struggles give you a goal to work towards, they give you motivation to do your best and to want to change. Personally, I see life as a big lesson, something that will help our soul grow, life is the biggest test with an ultimate reward.

No one’s life is truly easy, we all deal with many struggles, it’s a part of being human. We learn every day and we try our best. Although we cannot change our circumstances, mentally we can change so much. We can choose to look at our roadblocks as motivation instead of failure, we can choose to look at our struggles as defining our strengths instead of showcasing our weaknesses, we can choose to see life as the beautiful and precious gift that it is. You are on this earth for a reason, keep shining!

The Use of Distraction

We have all been there, we’ve scrolled through social media, browsed through our phones for hours upon end, we’ve lost ourselves in a hobby, or binge watched shows and movies. Truth is, all of these things are fun and can be done for pure joy, but also these are ways of distracting ourselves from reality.

We are all human beings trying to live and navigate our way through life the best that we know how. Our journey isn’t an easy one as we make our way through life’s unexpected paths and roadblocks, trying to keep up with the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Now more than ever, we are living in very tough times which doesn’t help our already complicated lives.

For anyone who has studied Psychology, you may have learned that there are different coping mechanisms that individuals use for processing a stressful emotion or life event. Distraction is a type of coping mechanism, it allows you to step back from life, to zone out and “forget” reality for a bit. It’s fun to get lost in a show, or book about someone else’s life. Distraction is a great way to minimize anxiety and to take a break from life in order to come back more refreshed. On the flip side, if we spend too much time distracting ourselves from reality, this is a negative thing as we are not facing our issues in order to move forward, so a good balance is key.

The next time that you are feeling a strong emotion, or going through a tough spot in life, try a little distraction to distance yourself from what you are feeling and dealing with and see where that takes you.

Left on Read

We have all experienced that feeling of being “left on read.” For those of you unfamiliar with that term, it basically means that you have texted someone and they read your text, but they have not responded. I’m not sure about you all, but being left on read is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. It evokes a lot of feelings for me from sadness to anger. I start to question and wonder what happened and why someone chose to not respond back. Sounds trivial, but it really does bother me.

Often we hear people say phrases like “I’ve been so busy,” or “I read your message, then forgot to respond when I had a moment.” To me, there is no such thing as too busy. Yes we get busy and we get caught up in life, but we always have time for things and those that matter the most to us. Many people are not bothered by a lack of response, I don’t like that I am one of them! I believe that if we do not take an unanswered text personally, it feels better and is easier to accept.

What are your thoughts? Are you bothered when someone does not text you back? Wishing you all a beautiful weekend!

A Little Kindness

I know how important kindness is, I know how important it is for other people and for ourselves. With so much going on in this world, sometimes we forget that a simple hello, or a smile can go such a long way. Your act of kindness may be one that someone hasn’t had for a long time. A smile and a nice gesture can change a life.

When life gets rough, it can be hard to focus on the good, we keep wanting to focus on what is going on in our lives and how we can fix it. We can forget how something so small can make us feel human, connected, loved, and respected. Everyone is fighting many battles in their own lives. The happiest person also struggles deeply because we are all human no matter what face we may put on. The kindness of even just one person has the power to turn a day around and even change a life. Make someone’s day today, smile, let them go ahead of you in line, give a hug, check in on a loved one, treat others the way you want to be treated. YOU can truly make a difference!
