Speaking Your Truth

We all have a voice inside of us, stories that are uniquely ours, and life experiences that no one else has experienced exactly as we have.

Deep in our souls is our truth. At our core is what we believe in, everything that we feel strongly about, and every ounce of who we are. This truth, 100% of it at least, is hardly shared with the outside world.

Bits and pieces of ourselves are released and exposed to a rare few, but much of our core remains in hibernation.

My Word

I chose authenticity as my word for 2023. I am working on expressing myself fully and not being afraid to be vulnerable and be myself. I don’t want to have to censor my thoughts and feelings, I want to be open and express myself in the way that others seem to do so effortlessly.

Feelings

The feeling of not sharing our truth and expressing ourselves can be very detrimental. We need some sort of outlet for our deepest emotions, whether it be through journaling, writing, or verbally communicating.

Withholding thoughts causes a lot of inner turmoil. It can create stress and that can lead to even more intense emotions. The older I get, the more I realize just how powerful speaking our truth can be.

Lately

I have been trying very hard to stay true to myself. I am trying to take each situation and conversation that presents itself in my life as a new chance to speak my truth. I still fall, but I am holding myself accountable.

I’ve noticed that when I share my thoughts and feelings, I feel so much lighter…almost like a weight has been lifted from me. When emotions are released it’s almost as if their power is taken away. They can no longer haunt us and cause inner turmoil. They are free to escape and roam, lessening our burdens.

You Are Needed

The world needs your truth, and the world needs YOU. We all add value to this world. We all have stories that we can share to help and inspire others. We deserve to be heard, loved, cared for, and respected as the individuals that we are.

Speaking your truth puts you on the path to freedom.

Sitting Stationary

I was having a conversation the other day with one of my long-time friends. We were catching up and seeing how each other was doing. She let me know that she was stressed at work and felt that her job was overwhelming, and her relationship was nothing that she desired it to be.

I’d like to think of myself as a really good friend. I am loyal as anything, and I have a lot of love to give. I enjoy helping other people and being there for them with a listening ear or helping hand. I listened to her intently and offered my sincere support and advice when asked. There is one thing that I suggested, it was not meant to be harsh, but to be helpful and get her out of sitting stationary.

What if I were to tell you that I have had this conversation more times than I can count with this particular friend? What if I were to tell you that she has had this job for several years and talks about wanting to leave regularly? What if I were to inform you that the relationship that she is in has been around for many, many years?

I never tire of listening to others, everyone has a right to say what they are feeling and to be heard and understood and no matter how many times we have had this conversation, I will still always be there for the people that I love. I made a particular suggestion to this friend that has reminded me of a few things.

First, let me tell you what I suggested to her. I let my friend know that these subjects are something that she has talked about often and that for her to feel happiness and peace, she will need to make a change. Is change scary? Yes, it certainly is, but so necessary if we want our lives to become all that we want them to be.

Anytime that we are unhappy with certain aspects of our lives, or just unhappy in general, a change is needing to be made. If we feel like our relationship has gone south, we must take the necessary steps to communicate and try to repair it if at all possible, if our job is causing us more harm than good, then we need to find a way to either manage the stress or move on to another position that better suites us.

Sometimes we are afraid when we try to implement change. We don’t know what the outcome will be, we don’t know if the change is what we truly want, and we also have trouble thinking of what sort of sacrifices we must make to make our dream a reality.

Venting your feelings is one thing and it is a necessary thing, however, putting action towards those things is an even bigger step. I let my friend know that as hard as it may be and as many sacrifices that may have to be made, if she desired true happiness and freedom from these two things weighing her down, she needed to do something about it.

We have one life to live and one chance to make it everything that we have ever hoped for. We have one life to seek and obtain our goals, and to strive for happiness and balance. Anything that you desire will take a lot of effort on your part, but the result will be so worth it.

It’s hard feeling stuck in life, I’ve been there so many times, but it’s equally as hard not feeling like you can do anything about it. You have the power to change your life and to stop feeling like life is stationary, there’s no better time than now, start today!

The Perfect Life

I’m sure for a lot of us, we have had an image or idea of the kind of life plan, or life path that we wanted to take.  For some of us, we have had an idea of the “perfect life” since we were children.  Maybe we dreamed of going to college, getting married, then having children, or maybe our goal was to graduate high school, become an entrepreneur, and explore the world.  Whatever your ideal life had looked like, I am sure that it is somewhat quite different than you had envisioned.

I think with anything in life, we have some sort of idea of how we want, or expect things to play out.  We have this vision of what would happen if we could perfectly lay out the foundation of our own lives.  I know with my own life personally, I had a vision of my “perfect” life and what I had hoped would happen this far.  Overall, I have achieved many things that I wanted, however the way in which I obtained them, or the order in which they occurred in my life was nothing like I ever expected.  Like many, I have had some tremendous hurdles, road blocks, and detours in life.  If someone would have sat me down and told me all that was going to happen in my life, I probably wouldn’t have believed them. Life rarely turns out like we expect it to and I think sometimes we get so set on how life should be that it really catches us off guard when life does not go as planned.

Life takes us down some very unexpected paths.  We have this vision of how we want life to unfold and in reality, our lives are nowhere near this dream or ideal life.  Nothing and no one is perfect.  While it’s excellent to have goals, visions, and plans, we must also be cautious enough to not bank so much on certain things in the event that they do not play out, or do not play out as we expected. We can make plans, but we are not in full control of what happens to us.

I am thankful for the good and the bad in life and although I may not understand why some things happened the way they did, or why certain things have not come into my life, I am blessed for what I do have and excited for what will come in the future.  There is beauty in not knowing, there is beauty in the strength that comes from challenges and struggles.  There is no such thing as a perfect life, but our life is special and has a purpose even if it doesn’t turn out the way we had expected it to, it’s still a very beautiful gift.
