My Heart Belongs to a Keyboard

There are few things in life that capture our hearts and souls. They end up becoming part of us and we cannot imagine our life without them.

As we grow, we may change our passion and hobbies, but the tried and true will always remain.

Younger Years

I remember being in school as a young girl and my teacher would give us a certain amount of time to write a story on anything that we wanted. I remember how magical it felt to pick up a pencil and put it on paper. When the teacher told the class that time was up for the assignment, I remember always feeling like I wasn’t done. I wanted to write forever.

My love of writing remained outside of the classroom as well. As children, my sister and I created books in which we would take computer paper, staple it together, and write a storybook. Our imaginations went wild.

When I got a little bit older and even into my preteen and early teenage years, I began to journal and keep a diary. I remember the feeling of hardly being able to wait to write in my diary every night. I was excited to write about my day and express myself. I loved the way my pen would glide across the page.

Today

I used to handwrite all of my stories as a draft first before typing them, but over time, I chose to go straight to my laptop to create my work.

Writing in general has me falling in love every day, no matter how it is created, whether it be via pen and paper, or laptop, it is all works of art and it is a beautiful process. I have come to love the way typing on a keyboard feels.

Blissful Experience

With my fingers placed on the keys, the keyboard is mine. I can then enter my thoughts and feelings and begin to express myself. The keyboard lets me be myself and I become one with the keys.

Just picturing the feeling of my fingers dancing around the keyboard is enough to bring me great joy. I can’t wait to create and see what my fingers will come up with next. The sound of the keys clicking means thoughts are flowing. It’s all an amazing experience!

My heart belongs to a keyboard and when I am not writing, I feel lost. I wait for the next free moment to feel the natural high. I love and miss the keys. They are part of me, just as writing is.

The whole world is open to me, even one that exists only in my mind and on my screen.

The whole world is literally at my fingertips!

Hardwired to Write

I took one of my children to the doctor a few weeks ago for a routine check-up. My children see several of the doctors there and they are all fantastic.

The one that we were meeting with a few weeks ago is always so pleasant and kind, she is very caring and likes to carry on a conversation to make everyone feel more comfortable.

An Interesting Conversation

The doctor and I were just making small talk as they checked my child over. I asked her how she’s been doing. She asked me how I was and then she asked me a surprising yet thoughtful question.

The pediatrician stopped the exam for a brief moment and asked me what I do to relax after taking care of my young children all day. It felt awkward because after all, we were here for my child’s visit and not for me, but the fact that she cared enough to ask truly melted my heart.

Everyone is Different

I proceeded to tell her that my favorite ways to unwind are being out in nature and writing. She looked up at me and said “wow, you like to write!?” I told her that I absolutely love to write and I always have.

The pediatrician was finishing up with the exam and was busy making my little one laugh and making the visit as bearable as possible.

Right before we left, the doctor told me to keep writing and pursuing my passion. She told me how she thinks writing is such a beautiful form of art. I asked her if she enjoys writing as well, to which she replied, “my brain doesn’t work like that!”

It was so interesting to me that our brains all work in different ways. She is so bright and very knowledgeable about the human body. Her brain is wired in such a way that she is capable of being a doctor! I wish that my brain could work in that way, but I am not cut out for it.

I Was Amazed

I have seen several amazing doctors on this platform who are also writers, they have the gift of both abilities!

This very response got me thinking, what creates a writer? Is it our love for expression, our deep way of thinking? Is it an obsession with words and the way that they come together to create a beautiful story?

One could think of many reasons and perhaps it is a combination of things. Some are born to write and others discover their love later on in life.

Part of My Soul

One thing for sure is that writing is an actual part of me. It is a part of my soul, and I would be lost without it.

Maybe it’s safe to say that some people are hardwired to write!

No Matter What

Many things in this world come and go, and very few aspects of our lives are consistent as much as we wish they would be. As human beings, we are also able to be let down by people, our jobs, friends and family, and just general roadblocks that pop up in life. I have had my fair share of disappointments, but there is always one thing that I can turn to no matter what and that is writing.

I have loved writing ever since I was a little girl. When I was younger, it would take me quite a bit of time to come up with a topic, but once I did, I was unstoppable! Today, as an adult, I can thankfully easily come up with topics and once I get in front of my laptop, or a piece of paper, my thoughts just flow constantly. Writing is so therapeutic for me and I truly love that I may be able to share something that I have learned that could help someone else.

There are many things that we want to be able to trust and rely on in life, however, those very things do let us down from time to time. Most of us have been let down by friends, family, significant others, our job, and even ourselves. Writing will always be there and if it is something that you enjoy, then that makes it even more amazing. No matter how rough your day was, how stressed you are currently, or what kind of mood you are in, writing will always be there. Not only is it there for you, but it is also very therapeutic and something that can lift your spirits and turn your day around.

I am sure that most of you on this platform love to write, or at least read! Any sort of hobby or pastime is something that you can always become involved with. Of course, it’s always good and helpful to be surrounded by other people who can support you, but there’s also good in having alone time and being at one with your thoughts.

Sometimes we may feel so lost, confused, we may have had a rough day, or dealing with unpleasant emotions, you can always turn to writing to get your thoughts out on paper. It is up to you if you chose to publish it or not, but the mere act of writing is very beneficial. Choosing to write about how you feel will give you an outlet and a sense of relief while choosing to write about something very different from what you are experiencing will give you a great sense of distraction, a little break from reality. No matter what, keep writing and other hobbies that you may have integrated into your life.

The Importance of a Hobby

What are you passionate about? Chances are, you have a hobby or pastime that truly brings you joy and allows you to grow as a person. Many common hobbies are writing, art, sports, fishing, collections, for example.

Your hobbies and interests may have changed since you were younger, but hopefully you have some sort of hobby or personal interest that really sets your soul on fire! Think of your favorite pastime and how it makes you feel. Think of how this hobby makes you feel like you and makes you feel complete. It’s very important to have something in life that you can always turn to and be excited about no matter what you are going through.

My absolute favorite hobby is writing! I’ve actually thoroughly enjoyed writing since I was a little girl. I’ve grown to love it even more so as an adult. Writing makes me feel so free and it helps me express myself and I have hopes that my work will help others in some way. I want to pass on the life lessons that I’ve learned. Thank you to Arushi for this blog post recommendation and all of your support! What are some of your favorite hobbies?
