There are many things in life that we desire and want for ourselves and for our lives. We have a drive inside of us that pushes us to keep going and stay determined to reach whatever we are seeking. Sometimes a little doubt and fear creeps in and can throw us off track.
Think back to something that you really wanted. Think of how much drive and persistence you had while trying to reach that goal, or desire. There was probably not much that could stand in your way, you had your eye on the prize and pursued until you reached what you had sought.
Fear is an emotion that serves a purpose in an emergency situation, or as a warning etc., however it shouldn’t be an emotion that we feel constantly, or one that stops us from living out our daily lives. Anxiety is the base of fear and when we let those thoughts of fear and doubt creep in, we can destroy our happiness and our motivation. Whatever you want in life, go for it, don’t let anything stop you, and know that life will play out just as it should!
We make decisions every day, some small, some life-changing, some that we don’t even know we are making because they are on the subconscious level. Some decisions in life are easy to make, others prove very difficult.
We all have ways of making decisions, for some of us we sit and think and ponder all options, some of us like to write things down, or make lists such as the famous pro/con list. Some of us just sit back and let fate and life drive us to our destination.
The ironic thing about having to make decisions is that often they are made for us. Life changes, or changes our course or path and we all of a sudden are headed in a different direction. What is meant to be for us always will. When faced with a big decision I personally like to make a plan and let the rest unfold as it should! Have you had to make a big decision lately?
Recall that little voice inside that sometimes “speaks” when you don’t want it to, or is too quiet when you wish it would help you decide? That is your gut instinct, your intuition and it serves a great purpose in life. I believe that we all have a gut instinct that helps us subconsciously navigate through life, a little voice that pops up here and there when we are faced with a dilemma, are pondering a question, or trying to find our life path.
The evidence of our gut instincts can be seen during our daily lives. Ever meet someone new and knew that you would become instant friends? Maybe the opposite, something told you to keep your distance from someone? Have you been at school taking a test, read the question, had no idea of the answer, yet you got it right? Have you had to choose between which job to take and later found out that you made the best decision of your life? Have you had to decide whether to do something now, or postpone it and you chose the perfect time? Though these examples could be due to coincidence, much of the time they are aided by the help of our subconscious.
So many times when we have to think or choose in life we unknowingly let our anxiety, fears, past experiences, or overthinking get in the way. Our true thought process is tainted by these and therefore we may not clearly be able to see the best idea or option. So, what is a good way to let your gut instinct guide you instead of your mind? Often it is the very first, almost instant response that you feel. For example, if you are choosing between taking Job A and Job B, ask yourself “Is Job A or Job B a better fit for me?” Without deliberately thinking or pondering the subject, notice which one comes to mind first, which one feels more right. First instincts and thoughts are usually the most correct.
Some individuals like myself have an even deeper inner voice known as intuition. I believe every person has it, some just have a deeper sense of it. This almost borders on psychic ability, as someone who is highly intuitive can often predict things before they happen. Intuition is a gift that can be developed and grown. I often try to develop my own by trying to feel how certain events will play out etc. My beloved grandmother was very intuitive, even more than I am. She could foresee many things before they happened and she often knew things going on before they were said. I believe that I got my own ability partly from her. My grandmother always told me that the older I got the stronger my intuition would be and so far she has been right. God Bless her soul. I miss her terribly.
The next time that you are faced with a difficult situation, a dilemma, wondering which path to choose, curious if someone new is worthy of your time, try to see if what instantly comes to mind without truly thinking about it helps you in any way. Life is full of choices and the decisions that we make can have a great impact on our lives. We go through life everyday making decisions big and small. We encounter situations that we don’t give much thought to and ones that make us dwell on them for days. We are faced with decisions from the moment we wake up to the time that we go to bed. We have to decide what to have for breakfast, which route to take to work, where we spend our money, how we spend our day, what time we go to bed at night, etc. We are always faced with some sort of choice to make and that choice will ultimately lead us to another situation and possibly another choice!
One can spend hours, days, months, or years debating and contemplating a decision, especially one that has the ability to change our lives forever. I was recently faced with one of the greatest decisions that I have ever had to make in my life and I want to share how I reached that decision. It took months, but after careful analyzing of the situation, I knew I had made the right choice.
Most likely, when you are faced with a certain situation, your mind will be running in all directions and will probably feeling a bit like a hamster running on a wheel. One thought leads to another, that leads to another, and so on. Once we reach the point that we know that we are faced with a situation or decision, and we can calm down after that initial stage of anxiety, panic, sadness, whatever emotion we are feeling, then we can begin to look at the situation more logically without having our emotions rule most of our decision-making.
Step one when I need to make a big decision is a pro/con list. I can think of the positives and negatives in my head, but to write it out on paper gives me a true visual image. Sometimes when you try to name positives and negatives for a particular choice, you feel like each side is pretty equal until you write it all down and realize that there really is no case…there is a clear winner! After looking at the pros/cons of a decision, I then look at each option and think if I chose that option, what possibilities could that lead me to? If I don’t choose that option, what could that mean for me and my future? Of course, we cannot always know how things will play out in life, but we may be able to get an idea of the possibilities and that could help aide us in our decision-making.
We all have different views and opinions about life and circumstances and this is just mine, but I truly do believe that everything happens for a reason. Life seems to fit together so perfectly like pieces of a puzzle and as it unfolds we can often see why a particular event didn’t occur, or why we are no longer with someone that we loved. We have to go through certain events to make us stronger and more knowledgeable, they help us grow as a person. I believe that we all have a life path that was created just for us, we are all on our own unique journey, but we are here to learn, grow, and help each other through it.
