My grandmother, who sadly is no longer with us, was my whole life. I adored her so much and I valued our relationship beyond words. She shared a story with me many years ago about a near-death experience (NDE) that she had when she was younger.
My grandmother was a loving, encouraging, and wise woman. She was a beautiful soul and a bright light in my life. I miss her every single day. I am blessed and thankful that I get signs from her all the time. We are still connected, even though she is departed.
Some of my favorite moments were with my grandma. We used to cook, watch our favorite shows together, and share stories. I used to love to hear her stories, she had a very interesting life, and I was intrigued by all that she had to share. We were sitting on the couch together one day and she told me about a near-death experience that she had.
My grandma was at a hospital being prepped for a major surgery. The staff did their routine checks and then administered general anesthesia; my grandma was then wheeled to the operating room. The doctors worked diligently as she lay on the operating table.
I was sitting on the edge of my seat and nervous about what my grandmother was going to say next. She told me that after a while into the procedure, she started to bleed profusely. The doctors had an extremely hard time stopping the large amounts of blood from escaping her body. My grandmother said that she didn’t remember anything going on due to the anesthesia, until she “died.”
The doctors frantically tried to save her, but the blood loss was so great, that shortly afterward, my beloved grandmother was pronounced “dead.” Blood loss this great is one of the risks of surgery, although considered extremely rare.
My grandmother recalls the hospital staff standing over her body, panicked at what just happened. She recalls the medical staff saying that she had “died” and she remembers them working over her body tirelessly trying to bring her back to life.
In the meantime, as doctors hover over her, she said that she could see and hear them, but she was not able to respond. She was instantly overcome with the most beautiful sense of peace and happiness. My grandmother said that she felt warm and safe and was just overcome with a rush of joy. She had never experienced such bliss here on Earth, she said it was something so beautiful and magical that it was beyond what we are even capable of feeling and understanding.
My grandma recalls a bright white light that she referred to as a “ball.” This bright light brought her overwhelming joy, and she followed it higher and higher. She remembers stairs and someone standing at the top of the stairs welcoming her.
I remember my grandmother smiling at this moment because she recalls what it felt like and it was pure bliss. She said that she felt so light and free, it was a feeling that she could not get enough of.
As she approached this figure standing at the top of the steps, she recalls the figure telling her that this is not her time and that she must go back to earth. Instantaneously, she remembers experiencing a very strong pulling sensation, almost as if she were being pulled very strongly back down to earth.
Grandma remembers not wanting to leave this new beautiful dimension that she reached. The downward pull was too strong, and she was reminded that she was still needed here on earth. She ended up coming to in the operating room and lived many years later to tell her story.
My grandmother never feared death and her experience of this only solidified her feelings even more. She knew one day that she would be able to feel the pure joy and happiness that came with this experience and that she was going to enjoy all that she had here on earth, every moment that was given to her.
While I have not had an NDE, I have had many experiences with the afterlife including experiences with ghosts and getting countless signs and messages from my departed loved ones.
There is no doubt in my mind that there is another life after the one that we live here on earth. NDEs, ghosts, and other paranormal experiences only further prove that even when our bodies are no longer living, our souls are transported to a place more beautiful than we can comprehend.
Have you or anyone you know ever had an NDE? I would love to hear your stories and experiences!

Your connection with your grandma is so unique, colourful and delightful 😊 I’m sorry she already left us on this plane but at the same time we know she’s right here with us ❤️ also smiling at this moment you two shared. I never had an NDE but it’s something that fascinates me too. I had an out-of-body experience but it was different from these NDEs (I was conscious). Reading about your grandma’s experience brings some cosy feelings I can’t explain, it’s like a mix of hope and comfort. Thank you so much for sharing with us 💖
